The Highly Skilled Migrant permit was created for employers in the Netherlands to easily hire people from outside the EU and for employees who want to work in the Netherlands. Often these are expats who are highly educated or who have already built career paths in another country and want to continue it in the Netherlands. It is one of the most frequently requested work-related permits by employers for their employees. The main reason is its favorable conditions.
What are the conditions for a Highly Skilled Migrant permit?
- Your company is registered with the IND as a recognised sponsor. You can read more about the recognised sponsorship here. The application must be submitted by the employer.
- Your employee’s salary must meet a certain minimum. The gross monthly salary excluding holiday pay is taken into account. Different salary criteria apply to employees under the age of 30 and employees who are 30 years and older. There is also a reduced salary criterion, which only applies to someone who has or qualifies for an Orientation/Search year permit.*
- You have a signed employment agreement with your employee.
- The other general conditions, such as the passport and signed antecedent statement by your employee.
